News 2 Use – Tree-Lined Streets Lower Asthma Risks

treeResearchers in New York found young children (ages 4-5) who live in neighborhoods with lots of trees have lower rates of asthma than those in other areas (Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, July 2008). In a related study, researchers in Germany (American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, June 15, 2008) said children in the city of Munich who lived closer than 50 meters to high-traffic streets were 50 percent more likely to develop allergies or allergic diseases (including asthma) than those who lived farther away. http://jech.bmj.com and http://ajrccm.atsjournals.org/
