Learn to Live Well with Latex Allergy
On December 8, 2009 @ 12:40 pm In All Articles,Blogs
Sue Lockwood and Marsha Smith, co-Founders of American Latex Allergy Association , know about the ravages of undiagnosed latex allergies – as well as the liberating feeling of getting the right diagnosis and education.
People with latex allergy have allergic reactions to natural rubber latex, commonly used to make everyday items such as latex gloves and balloons. Symptoms can include hives or welts, swelling of the affected area, runny nose, sneezing, headache, reddened itchy or teary eyes, sore throat, hoarse voice, abdominal cramps, chest tightness, wheezing or shortness of breath (asthma) or anaphylaxis. Many people with latex allergy also have food allergies, especially to foods such as bananas, avocado, kiwi and chestnut.
Sue and Marsha are concerned about the number of people who get diagnosed but never receive accurate information about how to live well with this condition. Get fact sheets and more at their website, and tell them Nancy says hello!
