AANMA and children’s advocacy nonprofit organization First Focus, with the Congressional Allergy & Asthma Caucus Co-Chairs Reps. Carol Shea-Porter (D-NH), Bill Cassidy, MD (R-LA) and Eliot Engel (D-NY), will host a congressional briefing on Jan. 10, 2014, to educate congressional staff and highlight the latest research on childhood asthma as well as state and community-based efforts to improve asthma management and health outcomes.

Expert panelists including AANMA Chief Operating Officer Tonya Winders will discuss the state of childhood asthma, with a focus on prevalence, racial and ethnic disparities, and the cost savings that can be achieved when asthma is controlled. The briefing will also highlight best practices underway in states and communities working to keep kids healthy, including a new state Medicaid option that allows reimbursement for community-based asthma prevention.
