Asthma - Resources

1. I just found out my four year-old has asthma. This is all so frightening and overwhelming. Do you know where I can find someone to talk to who is going through the same things I am?
Asthma can indeed be frightening and overwhelming. Learning as much as you can about asthma and how to control it can be help you overcome those feelings.

We encourage you to become a member of Allergy & Asthma Network Mothers of Asthmatics (AANMA). Our mission is to provide practical, patient-friendly asthma and allergy information to families through our publications and Web site. You can join online or call us at 800.878.4403 to learn more about membership benefits.

Discussions with other parents dealing with asthma also can be helpful as you begin your learning journey. Two national organizations have with local chapters that offer support groups and educational sessions: the American Lung Association (www.lungusa.org or 800.LUNG.USA) and the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (www.aafa.org or 800.727.8462).

You might also check with your child's physician to see if there is a support group or educational session she recommends. If not, local hospitals, clinics, and county or state health departments frequently offer support groups and educational sessions for people with asthma.
