![]() AANMA Internships Your efforts for three weeks can make a difference in the lives of people with asthma and allergies. Consider an internship with the Allergy & Asthma Network Mothers of Asthmatics (AANMA) in our Fairfax, Virginia office (a suburb of Washington, D.C.). Contribute to allergy and asthma health issues, the legislative process and educational and outreach services – and get tangible, meaningful experience in return. AANMA encourages students (college, nursing, medical, graduate, residents in pediatrics), school nurses and AANMA members to apply. Internships are unpaid, a minimum of three weeks and available throughout the year. AANMA's internship program is individualized for each person. Here are a few of the jobs you might be doing: Advocacy and government relations. Interns attend and report on congressional hearings, become familiar with AANMA's legislative activities and learn the value of forming useful unions with other organizations that have similar goals. Training in child advocacy is now required in pediatric residency programs. AANMA's internship provides an excellent elective opportunity for medical residents in pediatrics. Association work. Interns learn how an association works internally as well as with outside organizations. Attendance at AANMA meetings will be arranged. Hispanic outreach. AANMA has an active Hispanic outreach program. Become involved with research and reaching out to the Hispanic population on issues associated with asthma and allergies. Requires fluency in Spanish as well as English. Journalism. Work with AANMA staff in communicating health and legislative issues effectively to AANMA members, corporate members and the general public. Interns may write articles for the association's magazine and/or newsletter, do fact-checking and proofing, or draft materials and update our active public policy area on the AANMA website. Research issues. Assist with the preparation of background material for use with Congress and for AANMA distribution. Interested? Apply to AANMA in writing. Include contact information, resume and area of interest. Send application letters to: Mary McGowan |
