Allergy & Asthma Today Advertising Criteria

Allergy & Asthma Today magazine is an official publication of Allergy & Asthma Network Mothers of Asthmatics (AANMA). AANMA provides readers with medically accurate editorial content and advertising consistent with the mission to eliminate death and suffering due to asthma, allergies and related conditions.

AAT covers topics including asthma, allergies, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), eczema, anaphylaxis, food allergies, ocular and nasal allergies, sinusitis and gastroesophageal reflux (GERD).

AAT readers seek advertising about treatment options, medications and diagnostic testing, tools for daily management and monitoring, household goods and services, cosmetics, smoking cessation and products for improving indoor air quality. AAT readers seek solutions and reject empty promises.

• Advertising content should advance patient understanding of what the product is and how to use it without jargon or ambiguous terminology. For example, AANMA research shows the term “rescue medication” leads patients to believe that bronchodilators should be used sparingly, in life threatening emergencies only, and that “controllers” refers to whatever medications they use to stop unwanted symptoms. Such terminology has been removed from NIH Asthma Guidelines and we encourage AAT advertisers to do the same.
• Advertisements may not state or imply through graphic images that use of a product or medication will eliminate the need for allergen avoidance or other accepted allergy and asthma management tools unless scientifically established evidence is provided to AANMA and to the reader substantiating such claims. AAT does not accept advertising that overtly or subtly disparages a competitor’s product.
• AAT does not accept articles written or commissioned by agencies to promote a company’s point of view or favorably promote one product over another. Advertisements that appear to be editorial in content will be clearly labeled as advertisements.
• AANMA does not accept advertisements containing a seal of approval, implied endorsement or allergy- or asthma-friendly certification.

All advertising is subject to preapproval by AANMA and the Allergy & Asthma Today Editorial Board. AANMA may reject or cancel any advertising for any reason at any time.

AANMA and Allergy & Asthma Today make no claims or endorsements about products, services or therapies advertised and encourage readers to contact advertisers with any questions about products and services offered.
