breathless1Introducing Breathless Bethany Buttercup

Bethany Buttercup is a happy-go-lucky girl with lots of friends. Together they share neighborhood adventures from morning to night — except when asthma symptoms slow her down. Bethany has asthma. That’s how she got her nickname, Breathless Bethany Buttercup.

Try as she might, when Bethany can’t breathe well, she’s just not a happy camper! Using her quick-relief inhaler like her doctor said helps. So does staying away from things that make her wheeze. But when Bethany’s symptoms keep coming back, she and her mom get extra help from her doctor who prescribes an additional inhaler she takes every single day.

Bethany doesn’t notice any immediate improvement in her breathing when she uses the new inhaler; that’s because it treats the quiet part of asthma she doesn’t feel – airway inflammation and swelling – that can lead to asthma symptoms.

breathless2Bethany has a written asthma action plan that gets updated every few months. She follows instructions and takes her medicines so she can breathe easier. She carries her quick-relief inhaler everywhere she goes. She keeps her daily inhaler at home beside her bed.

Bethany and her mom are learning better ways to control asthma and so can you and your family!
